Merry Christmas from Telemark
To the valued members, guests and volunteers of the Telemark Community: On behalf of the Board and Staff of the Telemark Nordic Club, I would like to wish you all a safe, healthy, and joyous holiday season, and New Year. We will get through this pandemic together. With over 50 km of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails, Telemark offers a healthy way to stay active while maintaining a “social-distance.” Enjoy Telemark this Holiday season with your friends and family! Sincerely Brent Hobbs, President
We have beautiful ski and snowshoe trails, great conditions, rentals and more…everything you need to help you enjoy your Christmas stay-cation at Telemark. We will be open everyday through the entire Christmas season including Christmas day. Check out the full Christmas Schedule
Our huge tree this year provides a wonderful centerpiece to our new lodge layout.
New Snowshoe Trail at Telemark
Telemark has a new snowshoe trail! Ridgeview is across the road from the parking lot in the K9 trail area. Dog or no dog, check it out. It’s on a ridge above the current trails and although it’s rated most difficult, take your time up the climb and you should be OK. On a clear day the view is stunning and different from what we usually see from Telemark, with views of mountains, lake and the farms you pass on the way up to Telemark. The trail distance is 1.9 km. but you have to access it off the main snowshoe trail so the total distance is 3.4 or 3.8 km depending on which way you go. Check out the Map here.
$10,000 Funding from Nordiq Canada
Telemark recently received $10,000 in funding from Nordiq Canada through the ‘AltaGas Club Support Grant’. The funding is to help support our Youth and Race Team Development Programs. This funding will make a big difference in helping to grow our programs and allow more kids to enjoy skiing as a sport for life.
Nordiq Canada is the sport governing body for XC skiing in Canada and provides the leadership, support and resources needed for all Canadians to find their own greatness in our sport, whether they aspire to ski for their country or for fun and fitness. AltaGas is a Nordiq Canada parnter investing in Canada’s XC skiing future.
Thanks Nordiq Canada and Altagas!
Youth Programs Start Saturday Dec 12
Just a reminder that our Youth Programs will be starting up on Saturday Dec 12th. 150 kids and their families will be at Telemark between 10am and 1pm. It’s wonderful to see all those kids on skis but things can get hectic. If you are keen to ski at Telemark on Saturday it is best to come in the afternoon to avoid the crowds and get good parking. It is especially important to come at a less busy time considering current COVID restrictions.
The youth programs will be meeting each Saturday until spring with a two week break through Christmas.
Telemark Now Open for the Season – Time to Celebrate!
It has not snowed much over the last couple of weeks but we have preserved our snow well and with more snow on the way next week it’s time to get started on the 2020-21 season. Telemark will be open on Saturday Dec 5th as scheduled. Yahoo!
We will be grooming and track-setting several trails with the Pisten Bully snowcat Friday night in preparation for opening. The snow conditions are quite good but please keep in mind that it is still early season and not all trails will be groomed and there may be some rougher spots. The snowshoeing trails are also open.
Until we get a little more snow and can groom all the trails regularly to our usual high standards we will only be charging 1/2 price for all days passes. Full price will take effect as of Dec13th, 2020
Please remember to bring your mask and be COVID aware. And please consider purchasing your passes and rentals on-line before departing for the Club to be totally contact-free for your ski.
Opening Day Delayed to Saturday Dec 5th
We have a good base of snow, things are currently looking pretty white, and some people are already skiing and snowshoeing. However, the base is too thin for us to do regular grooming of the trails without damaging them and making them unsafe. We just need one more good snowfall and we’ll be ready to open.
We are therefore delaying our opening by one week to Saturday Dec 5th. Skiing and snowshoeing are possible right now but grooming will be limited and we will not have rentals or day passes available until Dec 5th.
