Telemark is Open for Recreational Skiing and Snowshoeing on Loppet Day

January 12, 2019 Posted by Mike Edwards

The Apple Loppet is set for Sunday Jan 13th!  Don’t let that stop you from coming up for a recreational ski or snowshoe  The Telemark Nordic Centre is open for public skiing and snowshoeing on Loppet day.  To avoid the crowds and have the best skiing available it would be best to plan your ski for mid-day.

The kids races start at 9:30am and the main Loppet starts at 10:10am.  The Classic leg of the Loppet – on Telemark Trail –  is first to go and most racers will be off that trail by 11:15am.  The skate leg of the Loppet – mainly on Fern Trail – is last so it will be better to ski in the afternoon.  Most of the competitors will be finished  and things will be winding down by about 12:30 with the Loppet course completely cleared by 1:30. Full Schedule

Snowshoers will need to be extra careful crossing the ski trails when racers are coming through.

Saturday was a beautiful and busy day up here.  We were in the sunshine above the valley cloud with temperatures hovering just around zero Celsius.  Should be more of the same on Sunday and will make for another great day at Telemark for the Loppet and for regular skiing and snowshoeing.

Snow Snow and More Snow!!!

December 30, 2018 Posted by Mike Edwards

A week ago we were worried about being able to open at all. We received almost 40cm of snow this week,  conditions are now like mid winter and we are fully open for the season!

Our high tech snow guage shows 53cm of settled snow in the stadium area.  That’s getting close to 2 Ft of snow depth.  We are doing  regular grooming with the Pisten Bully snowcat and the skiing and snowshoeing is incredible.

Regular prices are now in effect for ski and snowshoe day passes! Lots of rentals available!

Come on up to Telemark and enjoy the snow!

December 20, 2018 Posted by Mike Edwards

The Telemark Nordic Club sent a large and record contingent of 13 athletes plus support to the World Junior/U23 Trials races in Canmore Alberta Dec 13-16, 2018.  The event was held to select Junior and U23 athletes to represent Canada at the World Junior/U23 World Championships in Lahti Finland Jan 19-27, 2019.  All the athletes had great performances and represented the Telemark Nordic Club exceptionally well.

Hannah Mehain and Gareth Williams qualified for the team going to Finland.  They were two of only 5 athletes from BC to be selected for the team.  This is an impressive result for our Club.  Congratulations Hannah and Gareth on an incredible  accomplishment!  We  are proud of the hard work and talent you displayed. Thanks to all the coaches for their hard work and commitment.
Hannah Mehain said, “I couldn’t help but smile when passing enthusiastic cheerers along the race course. I know that my supporters extend beyond the sidelines.”
