Kal Tire $100 Exclusive Coupon for New Tires

August 16, 2024 Posted by Mike Edwards

Kal Tire is once again stepping up to sponsor cross-country skiing youth programs across BC.  In the past several years, Kal Tire has generously supported our sport by funding ski playgrounds, adventure trails, roller skis, coaching development, program equipment, video contests, and more. The last four years Telemark alone has received funding of more than $9000 towards our programs and facilities through Kal Tire.

As a part of  their support for XC skiing Kal Tire is offering an exclusive coupon for a $100 discount on a set of any Nokian tires including the flagship Hakkapeliitta winter tire. Did you know that Nokian actually invented the winter tire? And is the only tire manufacturer in the world with its own permanent winter tire testing facility?  And that Nokian is from Finland, one of the world’s great cross country ski nations?  And that Kal Tire is the exclusive retailer of Nokian tires in Canada?

To add some fun, the 6 clubs that redeem the most coupons at their local Kal Tire shop(s) (on a per-member basis) will win $2000, $1500, $1000, $700, $500, and $300. Last season we helped the cities of Kelowna/West Kelowna to sell the most tires for this promotion and shared the $2000 prize with Kelowna Nordic. Let try to win again!

So save some money on new tires and also help grassroots xc ski programs at Telemark and across BC please head to a Kal Tire near you to get your new tires.

The COUPON is valid only until September 30th, 2024. Don’t wait until the last minute!

2024-25 Season Pass and Program Registration Now Open!

July 24, 2024 Posted by Mike Edwards

It’s the middle of summer but at Telemark we are always thinking about winter! Hopefully you are looking forward to a beautiful, cool, snowy winter as much as we are. What could be better to help you get away from all the craziness of life than to come xc skiing or snowshoeing at Telemark this winter!

Telemark Nordic Season Pass/Membership and Program registrations are now available on our Zone 4 Registration Page. Season Pass early-bird discount rates are available until 11:59pm Oct 31, 2024.  For more season pass pricing info, please go to our Season Pass webpage

Last season was an anomaly with a bit of a late start and an earlier than normal closing due to the strong “El Nino” effect. However we still had a great season with some amazing xc skiing and snowshoeing. With ‘El Nino’ over and a colder ‘La Nina’ pattern predicted we expect to be back to our usual fantastic season with great conditions from early December to the beginning of April.

There is a small price increase this year to help cover rising operating costs. So make sure to get your Season Pass by the early-bird deadline to save $. XC skiing and snowshoeing at Telemark are still among the least expensive winter activities out there and an incredible value.  An adult Season Pass is paid off in only 11 visits and you will have the flexibility to come to Telemark whenever you want, for any amount of time. Additionally, with a Season Pass, you are automatically a Club member and can participate in one of our many programs. Youth Development Program prices remain the same as last season.

There is again a 25% discount on rentals at Telemark for all Season Pass holders.
There will also be some early-bird draws, with a total prize value of over $1000 – Generously provided by our sponsor partners – Fresh Air Experience. & Kelowna Cycle Register early to have more chances to win.

Panorama Cabin – Fundraiser Ends March 31st – Matching Funds Incentive!

March 28, 2024 Posted by Mike Edwards

We hope you are as excited by the Panorama Cabin as we are. Please make a donation through our Canada Helps Fundraising Platform. It is easy to donate and the best part is that you get a tax receipt though our fundraising partnership with Nordiq Canada and additional matching funds of up to $2000 through CCBC.

Additionally if we get the most new donations of $50+ in last couple of weeks of the fundraiser there is an added $2000 bonus matching fund incentive from CCBC. The fundraiser is open only until the end of the day on March 31, 2024. Please donate now to help make our dream a reality!

Last season we initiated the Panorama Cabin fundraiser and raised over $11,000. Thanks to all those who donated! Combined with a corporate sponsorship of $5,000 this year and a commitment of $30,000 of Club funds we now have over $46,000 raised towards the Cabin. We are almost 1/2 way to raising the approximate $100,000 needed for this project. Momentum is building… and we hope to have full funding in place this summer. We are making funding applications but your support is still needed to reach our goal.

Last spring we submitted an application to the BC Government for approval, which includes environment impact assessment and  first nations consultation.  We expect approval by late spring of 2024 and if funds are in place we will be able to start construction this summer.

The cabin is planned for a spectacular spot overlooking the Okanagan valley 1/2 way along the Panorama Ridge ski and snowshoe trails. It will provide a challenging yet accessible destination for everybody as well as shelter for those needing a rest while on a longer adventure. The cabin is planned be made to modern building standards complete with covered deck space, heat and solar power.

Telemark Closed for the Season

March 28, 2024 Posted by Mike Edwards

We closed our doors for the season on Sunday March 17th but we groomed a couple more times and some ‘keeners’ were skiing for another week or so after that. The last grooming was on Saturday March 23rd. With continued warm weather and deteriorating snow conditions we are no longer able to groom. Skiing and snowshoeing are no longer recommended and we are fully closed.

Thanks to all our season passholders and day users for another wonderful season. It was a strange one with a later than normal start and a bit of an early end. Ultimately there were some great conditions this season and all our programs and events went well. It looks like ‘El Nino’ is ending this spring and we will be back to a more normal pattern of snow and weather next year.

Telemark is available for hiking, biking, dog walking and horseback riding in the summer as a public facility of Recreation Sites and Trails BC. Everybody is welcome and there is no charge. Trail use is best after the snow is all gone and the trails have dried up. This is usually by sometime in May. The daylodge is closed during the off season and there re no services available. The washrooms are always open.

See you next season!

Telemark Season Ending Sunday March 17th!

March 15, 2024 Posted by Mike Edwards

While there is still some good skiing & snowshoeing to be had at Telemark the exceptionally warm weather for the next few days will deteriorate the snow conditions quickly. So, sadly we have decided to close for the season after Sunday March 17th. Come on out for the last couple of days of the season.

For the keeners out there skiing & snowshoeing will still be possible after March 17th on some trails and we will do limited grooming where we can safely do so for another few days. The main part of the daylodge will be closed but the downstairs will remain open for an other week. The trail lights for night skiing will be turned off for the season after Friday March 15th.

Spring Conditions! We now have full-on spring conditions. This means there may be some hazards such as –  bare patches, dirt & wet spots and inconsistent snow on both the xc ski and snowshoe trails. The best time to ski will be in the morning before the snow softens too much.  In the evening when the temperatures cool the trails may be icy but still skiable for the experienced skier. Ski & snowshoe at your own risk!

It has been a bit of a strange season with a slow start, less snow than normal, big temperature  fluctuations and a bit of an early ending but, in the end, we had a good season with some really great conditions. We pulled off all our events and made it past mid-March.  ‘El Nino’ is now over and we should expect a longer more normal season next year.

Check our Trail Conditions webpage to see the latest grooming and conditions.
