Teck BC Championships Feb 28-March 2

February 24, 2025 Posted by Mike Edwards

Telemark is hosting the Teck XC BC Championships Feb 28-March 2 – This weekend! This event will see 600 people (mostly kids) from all across BC and further afield come to Telemark for a weekend of fun competition.

It takes a lot of volunteers to host an event like this and we could still use a few more. We hope you have some time to volunteer and help make this a successful event. There are many different roles. Please go to our Volunteer sign up page through this link

We will be open to the public/members for skiing and snowshoeing. However with so many people here it will be exceptionally busy. The parking lot will be overfull and several trails will be temporarily closed. So we recommend waiting to come to telemark until later in the afternoon (2pm or later) on Friday Saturday and Sunday or coming back on another day.

Good navigational skills and strategy planning will make the difference!

Panorama Cabin Update!

January 26, 2025 Posted by Mike Edwards

We have been working hard over the last couple of seasons towards building the “Panorama Cabin”.  We hoped to start construction last fall but the approval process took longer than expected and our funding application to the BC Tourism Growth Program was not successful. We now have the BC Government approval which includes environmental impact assessment and  First Nations consultation. Full approval will be in place once we have the final engineered plans this spring. Thanks to the generous donations of individuals like yourself and some corporate commitments we now have about 50% of the budgeted $100,000+ for the project. We will try again to apply for some additional funding but your donation will help to close that gap.

The cabin is planned for a spectacular spot overlooking the Okanagan valley 1/2 way along the Panorama Ridge ski and snowshoe trails. It will provide a challenging yet accessible destination for everybody as well as shelter for those needing a rest while on a longer adventure. The cabin is planned be made to modern building standards complete with covered deck space and plenty of room in its 18’x24′ footprint.

We hope you are as excited by the Panorama Cabin as we are. Please make a donation through our Canada Helps Fundraising Platform. It is easy to donate and the best part is that you get a tax receipt through our fundraising partnership with Nordiq Canada and additional matching funds of up to $2000 through CCBC. The fundraiser is open only until April 1, 2025

Try Biathlon – Sat Jan 25th

January 20, 2025 Posted by Mike Edwards

Telemark’s Biathlon Program is hosting a biathlon demo day and is inviting interested people to join! Biathlon is a unique winter sport that combines cross country skiing with marksmanship.
Date: Saturday January 25th
Time:
1:30pm
Location: Telemark Nordic Biathlon Range (200m South of the Main Lodge)
Register Online for free here: https://zone4.ca/register.asp?id=37836

New for this season, Telemark Nordic is using EcoAims biathlon systems. EcoAims are safe, easy to operate optical biathlon systems. There are no projectiles, rather they operate similar to the guns used in the 1980’s game “Duckhunt”. Thanks to grants from ViaSport, Biathlon BC, Biathlon Canada and the International Biathlon Union, Telemark has several new EcoAims biathlon units for this season.

Here’s a brief description video of the EcoAims units: Training for Biathlon with EcoAim

Equipment required

  • All participants will need to bring their own cross country ski equipment. Equipment can be rented from Telemark Nordic’s Rental Shop.
  • All participants will need to present a valid season or trail pass for the event. Trail passes can be purchased at Telemark’s Main lodge.
  • All participants should dress in layers appropriate for the temperature.
  • All participants should have gloves (not mitts) in order to operate the EcoAims.
