We decided to open up our Season Pass/Membership sales a few weeks early this year in order to enable people to sign up early for programs and to get a head start on Early Bird pricing. Many of our competitive programs start in September and Skill Development programs (bunny rabbits and jack rabbits) fill up quickly so it is a good idea to register early.

As an extra incentive, register by Sept 15th to be entered into a draw for one of three $150 gift certificates for Fresh Air Experience. In addition, everybody who registers now will also be entered into our regular Season Pass contest which will launch later in September.
TEAM TELEMARK AT THE HAIG GLACIER
Seven Team Telemark Nordic athletes took part in the BC Ski Team’s glacier skiing camp at the Haig Glacier in Alberta.
Athletes left for Canmore on July 20th to take part in 3 days of roller skiing at the Canmore Nordic Centre (the site of the Nordic events at the 1988 Olympics). Four of the older athletes also took part in roller ski testing on a special treadmill to help determine ski specific training zones to ensure that their training is on track for a successful season.
The athletes ran and hiked the grueling 18km up to the Beckie Scott High Performance Centre at the Haig Glacier, while their gear and skis were helicoptered up.
The athletes rose early to ski daily as the best skiing conditions happen before it warms up. The afternoons were spent hiking and exploring the nearby mountain peaks, doing core strength training, meeting with coaches, napping and, for the very brave, ice water immersion baths in the numerous glacial fed creeks.
Being able to get on snow on the glacier is a huge benefit to the athletes, allowing them to refine ski technique, build a large training volume and get the benefits of training at a high altitude.
Once back from the glacier the athletes will resume training in Kelowna with the rest of Team Telemark under the guidance of head coach Adam Elliot.
WESTSIDE DAZE! LOTS OF FUN
Telemark took part in West Kelowna’s Community Celebration event – Westside Daze – last weekend. The highlight of Westside Daze is always the parade. The Telemark parade entry was a live band being towed on a flatbed trailer behind our Team Telemark van with 17 roller skiers from the Team Telemark racing program and a couple of biathletes too showing off their skills with mini races, slalom courses and handing out SunRype Funbites to all the kids along the parade route. Our entry was a big success as we were awarded first prize in the Music category and second prize in the Novelty category.
Big thanks goes out to…
- The band – ‘CRISPRR’. (Darcy Allen -Vocals, Mac Mackay-Keyboard, Curtis Kieres – Guitar, Joel Malin – Drums and Club members Deepa Filatow- Vocals and Barry Allen – Bass guitar). This band was formed by Telemark board member Barry Allen specifically for this purpose. Thanks to all the great musicians for their time and work to bring this band together in such a short time.
- Team Telemark race program kids for roller skiing and handing out treats.
- Telemark board members and coaches who came out to support everyone.
- Okanagan Nation Alliance for donating the Flatbed Trailer.
- SunRype for donating the ‘Funbites’.
We also had a booth at the Westside Daze night market in Memorial Park. Our biathlon laser rifle system was a big hit with everyone. The system simulates shooting a biathlon rifle and gave everyone – old and young alike – a sense of what biathlon is all about. Thanks to Biathlon BC for the loan of the system.
Thanks to the Westside Celebration Society for putting on a great event. We had a fantastic time and are already looking forward to next year’s Westside Daze.

GREAT TIME AT THE GLENROSA BBQ
Thanks for coming out to see us at the Glenrosa Residents Association BBQ yesterday! We had a great time doing a roller ski demo and chatting with members of the community. Look out for us again at Westside Daze!
