Rod's Ramble

Rod’s Ramble is Back

December 17, 2017 Posted by Rod Heater

After a very long interval, Rod’s Ramble is back.
There are several new developments regarding snoeshoeing at Telemark. First off, Larry Krar has stepped down as the snowshoe director and I have agreed to take over. Larry developed the Telemark SS trail system and has maintained it ever since. He tells me he will still be involved but doesn’t want to be in charge. If you see him on the trail, say hello and thank you.
As you may have heard, Telemark has developed doggy trails across the road from the parking lot. The main trail had been groomed for skiing in the past, but had become overgrown. In the fall, this trail was opened up and a new snowshoe trail was cut. To enter it, cross the road and follow the signed trail to the right. There is a main trail 3.3 K long and a short cut 1.4 km long. The trail is marked with orange surveyor tape with turns and junctions marked with blue signs with white lettering. It’s marked so it can be snoweshoed in either direction. The trail is a nice mix of singletrack through evergreen forest, with a few doubletrack sections The return portion follows the ridge between the original trail and offers up some excellent views. Early reviews are very positive.  If you want an easy day, take the short cut but take it clockwise for a more gradual climb. To do so, go past the first ” Doggy Snowshoe Trail” sign, and keep left until you see the second “Doggy Snowshoe Trail” on the right.
On Feb. 25th. Telemark will be holding a snowshoe race on Pine Forest Trail with varying distances. Start training now! More details to come.
