We celebrate the women of Telemark on International Women’s Day. The women and girls of Telemark contribute so much to our Club as event volunteers, coaches, racers, program supporters, staff and so much more.
The photo below is a group of just a few of the women and girls who were a big part of the BC Championships this weekend at Telemark. They helped to make the BC Champs an incredibly successful event as volunteers and participants.
Telemark is hosting one of the biggest competition events of the year The BC Championships March 6-8, 2020.
600+ competitors of all ages from across BC will be at Telemark for a weekend of racing and good times. Events start 11am on Friday and 10am on Saturday and Sunday. More event details our Event Webpage.
Preparations are well underway but we could use some additional volunteers. There are a variety of roles for both outside and inside volunteer positions including stadium, course, timing, banquet and more. Please consider volunteering BC Champs Volunteer Sign-up
Telemark will be open to the Public for recreational skiing and snowshoeing that weekend but please keep in mind that many of the trails will be closed due to the races. There will be designated routes to get to the open recreational trails.
Parking will also be at a premium. If you come up to Telemark for the event or for recreational skiing & snowshoeing please carpool as much as possible.

This Saturday only have your skis waxed professionally by the Telemark Race Team athletes and coaches while you wait. Only $20 and all proceeds will go towards the Telemark Race Team Program.
Learn more about waxing for yourself at a wax clinic. It is planned to run four different 1/2hr wax clinics from 12pm to 2pm on Saturday hosted by Telemark coach and wax guru Paul Shipley. Admission by donation.
On top of all that you can also buy a BBQ lunch at our last BBQ fundraiser of the season – Saturday from 11:30 until the food runs out.

Eight Telemark skiers and three coaches are off to The Special Olympics National Winter Games in Thunder Bay Feb 26 to 29, 2020.
Roy Stephens and Dimitri Konstant are excited to attend their first national games. They, and all of Team BC, will be supported by the veteran leadership of Tracey Melesko, Maria Schmitke, Francis Stanley, Glen McIntyre, Jordan Lige and Kelsey Wyse who have experienced success at multiple National and World Games. To prepare for Games, the athletes started dryland training in the spring and have been training on snow since mid November. All of these athletes competed in the Apple Loppet and many have competed in several generic races this year as part of their training. The athletes will be joined by coaches Garth Vickers, Annabel Stanley and Ray Huson. We wish the team well at The Special Olympics National Winter Games. This year the Team Telemark fundraiser is joining the Nordiq Canada Nationwide “100 CAMPAIGN”. This is a fundraiser aimed at raising $100,000 for Clubs to celebrate 100 years of XC skiing in Canada. Click for more info. Our goal is to raise $20,000. Telemark is the top fundraising Club in BC so far. Let’s keep it going! 95% of the funds raised by Telemark donors come directly back to Telemark to support the Team Telemark competitive programs.
Tax Receipt: Normally Telemark cannot offer tax receipts for donations but with this fundraiser a tax receipt will be given through Nordiq Canada. Take advantage of this while you can.
Matching funds: Cross-Country BC is adding a matching funds incentive with $800 in matching funds on the first $1600 raised. In addition an anonymous donor has committed $4000 in direct matching funds just for Telemark. So the first $5600 raised by Telemark are matched by an additional $4800 bringing the total up to $10,400 which is more than half way to our goal.

To take adavantage of the longer spring days Telemark will be open until 6pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday starting this weekend – Feb 22nd. We will remain open until 9pm as usual on the other days until later in March. You can always check out our Hours of Operation webpage for the latest information.
With plenty of snow and perfect temperatures Telemark is experiencing some of the best skiing we have ever seen. Come on out to Telemark and put a big smile on your face with some incredible skiing and snowshoeing!
Ten young athletes and three coaches from Telemark boarded a plane on Wednesday Feb 19 bound for the BC Winter Games Feb 20-23 in Fort St John BC. Telemark will be well represented at the Games with seven cross-country skiing athletes and three biathletes all competing for Zone 2 – Okanagan/Thompson. The BC Winter Games is a Multi-sport event for young athletes which emulates bigger Games like the Olympics/Paralympics. Hundreds of athletes from across BC will compete in 15 sports.

Each year the City of West Kelowna – Council carefully consider ‘Grant-in-Aid’ funding requests from not-for-profit groups that provide valuable social and community services to West Kelowna residents. Telemark would like to thank the City of West Kelowna for awarding $3500 to the Telemark Nordic Club this year. The funds will be used to purchase equipment to enhance the Club’s Youth Programs.
The City of West Kelowna is a valuable partner for the Telemark Nordic Club and helps the Club in many ways.
