Chalet Expansion Project

February 28, 2018 Posted by Mike Edwards

Our club is growing. In an effort to manage our growth, your Board of Directors is exploring options to expand our chalet and remodel the buildings in the vicinity of the stadium. Telemark members are invited to participate in the project. We are looking for your ideas and suggestions on the following topics:

1) Chalet Expansion

• How can we expand our building to accommodate the needs of our growing membership (e.g. wax room, rentals, eating area)?

2) Site Plan (stadium area)

• We currently have several external buildings (e.g. washrooms, storage shed, Quonset hut) on site. Are they meeting the needs of the club? Are we missing anything?

3) Fundraising

• The size and scope of the project will be determined by available fundraising resources. Please share your ideas on how we can generate financial capital for the project.

Action: we encourage you to write your ideas on the Ideas Board that is posted in the chalet. The poster board will remain up until the end of the season. The Telemark Executive will collate your ideas in the off-season and present options to the membership at the Annual General Meeting in October.

2018 Teck BC Championships – Job Well Done

February 18, 2018 Posted by Mike Edwards

The Telemark Nordic Club would like to thank the volunteers, parents, spectators, staff, members, first aid team, race committee and 664 individual competitors who made the last 3 days of racing a big success. One of the largest X-C  races ever held in BC and it was done safely, with no injuries. It was great to see other BC Nordic clubs coming to train on our timing system, for use during their races. Thank-you for pulling together.  Telemark is open Monday from 9-4 PM, and with the fresh power skiing and snowshoeing should be great.

2018 Teck BC Championships

February 12, 2018 Posted by David

The Teck BC  Championships cross country ski races will be hosted by Telemark Nordic Club February 16 -18, 2018. We will see teams from throughout BC as well as from Alberta and the Methow Valley in Washington state.  Teams from the Thompson-Okanagan, Vancouver Island, and the Lower Mainland will be joined by the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club (Prince George) and the Bulkley Valley Cross Country Ski Club (Smithers), along with skiers from the Kootenays (Black Jack and Kimberley Nordic) and a large turn out from the Revelstoke Nordic Club. Other athletes are visiting from even further afield.  More than 300 athletes have registered and this event promises to offer some great competition for our local Okanagan skiers.

This three day event helps the Telemark club raise money for youth skier development and attract attention to the programs.

Telemark athletes are in the news with their accomplishments both locally in BC, across Canada, and abroad. Claire Littlefair posted a personal best at the Haywood NorAm Westerns and a bronze medal with it. Gareth Williams and  Hannah Mehain, are representing Team Telemark, and Canada at the World Junior Championships in Goms, Switzerland. Both recently posted first-place finishes at the Canadian World Junior Trials in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Que.

This is a great location to host this event and it is inspirational to watch these young athletes take on the challenge of a great course. Volunteer positions are still available; be a part of the fun during the event weekend. For more information email Alison or sign up online.
