Two more days! We commissioned the race office today and all the timing gear arrived. Race Secretary Jill tells me we have over 635 athletes registered. It is going to be a long [interval start] day on Saturday! It will be OK — we have great food plus our announcer Scott will keep you entertained.
Planning to check in at The Cove before heading up to Telemark? If you are coming in from the North (airport) direction, don’t trust your GPS! The bridge on Lakeshore is closed and you will end up with a long extra drive. You need to go in from the South side on Gellatly Rd.
Just posted an updated race notice and technique zone course map on the web page.
Good news! Two of our Club Members who are outstanding amateur photographers have stepped up and volunteered to spend 3 days sitting in a snowbank on the course snapping 1000s of photos. As soon as we have time to upload, these will be linked to your athlete profile for each day of racing in Zone 4. More to come on that.
The weather here this week is to-die-for. Warm and sunny. I heard that blooming crocuses have been spotted in the area already. The trails are holding up great but expect soft snow later in the day. Gotta love klister!
Just a reminder, trail passes are included with athlete and coach registrations. If you are not a registered athlete or coach, you need a trail pass to ski. If you have the time for a rec ski, I recommend Panorama Ridge (5.5K) or Crystal Rim 7.8K. The views this time of year will take your breath away!
Cheers! See you tomorrow!
3 March 2020
Registration closes tomorrow (Wednesday) at midnight. Details are available on the race web page.
We are pretty excited. Conditions here are outstanding. We had all-time record snowfall this winter and nearly none has melted yet. Looks like it is going to be hovering around 0C for the race. Current air and snow temperatures in the stadium here.
As usual, there will be excellent quality food available for purchase all 3 days, professionally catered by one of our Race Dads. Selection of chillis and soups, artisan bread, fresh baked cookies. I believe the price is $5 but don’t hold me to that.
We are taking some pro-active measures to mitigate the risk of coronavirus exposure. Lots of hand sanitizer, trying to reduce the need for close contact with other people, frequent sterilizing wipe-down of at-risk surfaces.
Parking will be a premium. Please carpool when possible. Please do not park in or encroach upon our 2 handicapped parking spots! We will have athletes in attendance who are counting on those spots!
We are looking forward to having you.
4 Feb 2020:
Just back from a meeting with Leasa at The Cove. They were totally sold out, but they just agreed to release another 6 rooms for BC Champs: one single bedroom, 4 two-bedroom, and 1 three-bedroom. This is your last chance to get into The Cove! Call the resort reservations desk toll free 877-762-2683 or email reservations@thecovekelowna.com. Identify yourselves as Telemark Teck BC Championships to receive the special negotiated rates. Included in the negotiated race package is a dedicated ski wax area on property, special race-friendly menus at the on-premesis restaurant, and check-in / check-out provisions aligning with the race schedule.
The other two possibilities for convenient (close and comfortable) accommodations are the Holiday Inn and Best Western.
