YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids on Sunday May 27
Telemark Platinum Sponsor Fresh Air Experience has a major fundraising initiative for Strong Kids on Sunday. Please consider participating.
Get ready to Ride! Online registration for the YMCA’s 12th Annual Cycle for Strong Kids is open!
Fresh Air is a proud sponsor of Cycle for Strong Kids, and we want you to support our team.
Together, we can provide hundreds of low-income children and families with an equal opportunity to be healthy at the Y. Every dollar raised stays local and provides YMCA membership, child care, swimming lessons and so much more to those who need it most.
Join the Fresh Air Team or donate online HERE
Together on Sunday May 27th, let’s RIDE!
Spring Melt
I find this interesting, so I thought I would share. From Scott, fresh off a tour of the property:
“In a nut shell, open, south facing land is largely snow free. Our trails, where packed, are 98% covered in snow. Some spots to the effect of +3’ of it. Tracks are without question the ONLY way to get around the property right now. Anything wheeled simply won’t cut it. If you go out, be VERY mindful of where water runs beneath the snow, as it has created cavities that will eat the machine without you knowing what has happened. I had to turn around in a few locations today as conditions in watery spots were simply impassible or just not worth the risk.
If anyone’s looking to get out – Telemark trail by far has the most consistent snow remaining on it – snowshoeing would be your best option.”
Telemark Awarded AltaGas Club Coach Development Grant
The AltaGas Club Coach Development Grants is a CCC initiative aimed at supporting club coaches’ continuous professional development. Clubs’ funding is based on the demonstration of their capacity to develop junior athletes up to the targeted benchmarks for their age and stage of development.
More specifically, Coach Development grants awarded to clubs are calculated on the basis of the number of junior athletes in the club meeting International Points Benchmarks for their age (distance or sprint), excluding full time National Development Center athletes, on the final regular Canadian Points List.
This past season, Cole Turner exceeded the International Points Benchmark and thus qualified Telemark for the AltaGas Coach Development Grant. Outstanding!
From CBC — Cross Country Carnage
From CBC program “This is That”, Thursday, April 19, a 3 minute film that delves deep into the underbelly of cross country skiing:
Telemark is 6 for 6 on Biathlon BC Provincial Squad
Congratulations to Colton, Danica, Kira, Makenna and Natalie for being nominated to the Biathlon BC Development Squad and to Rory for being nominated to the Biathlon BC Talent Squad. It is quite an accomplishment to have all six of our race team members making it onto the provincial squads! It takes a village to support an athlete, so thanks also to all the coaches, families and the Telemark community for continuing to support these aspiring young athletes! — Andrew Hay
National Recognition
Oh my, that is quite an achievement. It was just announced by Cross Country Canada that Telemark won awards in 3 out of 4 National club categories and we were just barely edged out of 3rd place in the “Overall Most Improved” category. Well done Coach Adam, Brent, athletes, and coaches.
BC clubs won 14 out of the 36 awards this year. Go BC! Full details here: Cross Country Canada Club Podium.
Still Grooming…
It keeps snowing and people are still skiing so we are going to keep grooming. The high trails will be groomed Saturday, April 21. Enjoy.
